Top Useful Photography Filters for Real Estate Photographers

The real estate sector is one of the most emerging and globally recognized sectors that hold an important place among all the sectors. A large amount of money is invested in it and thus, real estate people do not leave any stone unturned when it comes to promotion and marketing. What people see is what sells is an idiom that goes well with the real-estate sector. The property has to be displayed and presented to the people in such a manner that they dream of buying it as soon as they see it. For that matter, the real estate agents make people dream of having a beautiful home, their office or resort with beautiful pictures.

This brings the real estate agents to a point where their search for skilled photographers begins. They are always on a hunt for skilled and experienced photographers because they can make the photos more appealing, thus increasing the chance of a sale of the property. Without a beautiful photo, it becomes difficult for them to sell it. It is the pictures that make the clients fall in love with the place and make them imagine their future in it.

Clicking beautiful pictures is an art that can be polished by learning the skill and using filters and other technological advancements. The filters have become a necessity when doing the picture correction. Though these filters have become old-fashioned when compared to the latest technology they still hold an important place in a photographer’s life. When these filters are used correctly, they can bring out stunning effects. Without using these filters the correction may take a lot of time and effort.

Filters are special glasses that help in Real estate photo enhancement. They are placed in front of the lens of the camera and produce the desired effect when used properly. With the advancement in digital photography, some may think that there is no need for these filters but these old fashioned and traditional filters are still favorite of some photographers when it comes to capturing images in a very difficult lighting condition as some software cannot simulate how photography filters behave.

Filters that are used by the real estate photographers

Let’s have a look at some of the filters that are used by the photographers.

1. Skylight or UV Filter- If we talk about Skylight or UV Filter it is a transparent filter. The main function of this filter is to keep away dirt, dust, grime, or droplets of water and prevent the lens from getting damaged or dirtying your lens. A camera is nothing without a good lens as it is the part that captures all the beautiful images. Thus it is smart and one of the most economical ways to protect the most important part of your camera. It not only keeps your lenses safe from dust, droplets, or dirt but from harmful UV lights and haze. So, if you are capturing images in dusty, wet, or muddy environments then keep your filter on.

2. Polarize- The main function of the polarizer is to enhance color saturation and reduce reflections in non-metallic objects. A polarizer is a very important filter when it comes to capturing exterior real estate shots. Apart from this, these can be used to any photography type, whether you specialize in weddings, landscape, architectural, or real estate. It has a rotating mount and its effects differ as soon as you turn the filter on. The effects can be seen through the rear screen and camera viewfinder. They filter polarized light that results in a reduction of the reflections. In addition to it, Polarizers are also used to enhance colors and can even increase contrast. With the rotation of the filter, the reflections appear and disappear in water, glass, and other non-metallic objects. It increases color saturation as it darkens the blue sky that makes the contrast better between the sky, cloud and the property for which the picture is clicked.

3. Neutral Density Filter- The main function of the Neutral density Filter is that it restricts the amount of light that enters the lens. It enables the photographer to use wider apertures with longer shutter speed in the existing lighting condition. These filters act like sunglasses that reduce the amount of light that enters the lenses and then reaches the sensors of the camera. The natural color does not get affected during the process. Some of the real-life conditions where these filters can be used are rivers, waterfalls, moving vehicles, or fast-flying birds. These filters do not need to be positioned.

4. Graduated Neutral Density Filter- This filter is usually used in landscape photography when there is a need to have a balance between the bright background and dark foreground. This is useful when shooting the backlit exteriors. It helps you in achieving balanced exposures between the foreground and background. Graduated neutral density filters come with different strengths that divide them into three types of graduated neutral density filter namely: the hard-edge graduated neutral filter, soft-edge graduated neutral filter, and the reverse graduated neutral density. The hard-edge GND filter is used in high contrast situations that go from clear to dark very abruptly. It can be used to shoot with clear horizons. On the other hand soft-edge GND is also used in high contrast environments, but with smoother transitions from clear to dark. This is best suited to the pictures that have backgrounds with mountains, trees, or skyscrapers above the horizon. You just need to position the filter correctly to have the desired effect.

5. Close-up filter- Close up filter is another useful filter that is used widely and frequently in photography. This filter is also known as Dioptre. It allows the lens to focus closely on the object placed in front of it. These are very useful when doing macro-photography. In this type of photography if the photographer wants to make the small objects look larger than life then it is very useful.

6. Special effect filter- These filters are used in all kinds of photography. These filters are known by different names like star filters, these filters make the bright objects look like a star. There is another called the diffusion filter whose purpose is to create a dreamy look for images; Multi-vision filter is another one that creates the copies of the subject in multiple ways and last but not the least, broken filters that cut a certain shape in the middle of the filter that makes the highlight to break and produce the same image.
